We are buying copper from miners. Please advise on the type of testing equipment that you can offer to determine the copper content?
In order to judge your requirement and offer correct type of instrument, please let us know the following:
- You need to determine copper contents in pure copper samples of in copper bearing alloys / ores. Also let us know the geometric form of the sample.
- Let us know the precision / accuracy needed for analysis
- Range of copper contents (Minimum & Maximum)
- Whether test can be destructive or it needs to be non destructive only
- No. of samples per day and maximum time that can be allowed per test
We have portable XRF spectrometer which perhaps can be of great use to you. In order to establish its suitability we suggest that you send us atleast 2 No of samples and we shall analyze them and give you the report. In case you find that their analysis is to your satisfaction, we can supply this instrument to you. You need not inform us their constituents initially. If you are satisfied, we shall be glad to discuss further with you.
Your budgetary plan should be for upwards of US $18000. We also have machines on lease basis.

Can all XRF based PMI instruments test for Carbon in Steel?
Please note that XRF based PMI instruments can not check elements like C, S, P, Si, Al etc. If you must test these elements then we advise you to use a portable Optical Emission Spectrometer such as the ARCMET 8000 manufactured by Oxford Instruments, Finland. Please note that ARCMET is not as portable as XMET 3000TX (an XRF based PMI instrument) and it also requires certain surface preparation for use. It can not be used in a working refinery as it generates an ARC.

- Metallurgist 9288 (Old) - $4000 (Not in 100% working condition. This is an old model. Use it at your own discretion)
- Metallurgist 9266 (Old) - $2000 (Not in 100% working condition. This is an old model. Use it at your own discretion)
- MetalMaster 2000 (Old) - $10,000 (This unit is in proper working condition)
All of the old instruments are in India. Ordering of the new instruments and delivery can take upto 12 weeks. Cost of shipping will be at actual to your desired port. Alternatively you can send someone to our office in Mumbai and hands carry them back. This will help you save on shipping costs. Most of these instruments weigh between 12-15kg. Newer instruments come with a 2 year warranty. This warranty does not cover the cost of the engineer required to repair the instrument.
Old Models have been well tested before being sold. The only reason we sell these is the fact that our PMI service offering team constantly likes to work on newer technologies. That being said, the older instruments can suffice and do the job if used within a QA department. Repairs to older instruments are available except for Metallurgist 9288 and Metallurgist 9266. If you encounter a need for repair to these instruments, then your office can contact our lab in India. We can discuss the service issue with our engineers or we may outsource the servicing to a third-party, if needed.

Do you sell the Insitu Metallography Kit and required consumables?
Yes we sell the In-situ Metallography KIT and required consumables. The list is as under:
Portable hand grinder
- Portable grinder with variable speed grinder. A versatile control unit with handle and connections for two hand pieces (straight and right angled)
- Full variable speed control.
- Flexible shaft assembly with end coupling.
OR
A small hand held grinder with variable speed controller -a very handy unit. We have made an attachment to normal portable grinder with variable speed and small rubber based attachments. This unit is very useful and maintenance free. We recommend and use these attachments regularly. Consumable remains the same as used with flexible shaft.
Rubber tip with self adhesive course and fine polishing papers of 45mm Dia and 32mm Dia.
Polishing papers 80, 120, 220, 320,400, 600, 1000, 1200 grit finish.
Polishing cloth: 32mm dia.
Diamond paste: 2 microns and 1 microns.
Portable electrolytic polishing/etching unit
