The Senior Metallurgist will be “hands-on” in the laboratory performing testing and mentoring others to perform testing, analysis and results interpretation of numerous samples analyzed through the laboratory including mechanical, chemical, metallographic and corrosion. He/She will be expected to undertake failure and root cause analysis of failed components. Prior experience of materials specifications and test protocols will be required.

The candidate will perform and assist in routine metallurgy, including micro preparation, etching, phase counting, grain size measurement, microstructural assessment etc. In addition, working within our mechanical test laboratory will be a requirement for conducting tests such as Tensile, Charpy Impact, HIC, SSCC and Microstructure Analysis.

The Senior Metallurgist will interface with the machining department to ensure that samples are prepared as per the ASTM, NACE, BS, IS or client-specified standards.

The applicant with a good broad-based technical understanding of the work carried out within the Laboratory sector is seen as highly advantageous for this position. A strong understanding of QA principals (NABL and ISO/IEC 17025) and good inter-personal skill are also important. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and ensure TCR’s QA standards are never compromised. Capable of cross-training department personnel to perform job functions in various testing areas.

Candidate should have at least 8 years of experience. Position requires a Masters degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Material Science. TCR Engineering will consider BS technical degrees, with heavy metallurgical background experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have gained their experience while employed within the laboratory or manufacturing sector rather than in a research or academic capacity. You should be analytical, possess advanced math skills as well as a full range of Windows office software ability. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and E-mail is absolutely required.

Given the interactive nature of this position, you must have exceptional communication skills (oral and e-mail etiquette) and be able to develop a rapport with people at all levels. You will be needed to prepare technical reports.

Reporting to the Managing Director, He/She will be responsible to ensure that adequate technical resource is available to enable effective operation in accordance with the requirements of ISO 17025 and the requirements of various third party approvals.

Assist in recruiting all NDT personnel for overseas assignments in the Middle-East and Asia-Pacific. The Office manager will handle recruit, hire and train other personnel for permitted areas and resolve personnel problems, will handle complaints, infractions, etc., which are referred to him/her and take necessary action to resolve these situations.

Manage project schedule for engineers working in remote locations. Conduct regular employee reviews; establish effective communication methods with employees and teammates; establish and maintain an effective organization for performing all client requirements and administrative functions; maintain a cooperative working relationship among employees, clients, and subcontractors; develop and manage partners to ensure goals are achieved.

The Office Manager will make suggestions/recommendations that could enhance or streamline operations, will perform or supervise human resources and office maintenance functions and be available to assist laboratory personnel in performing required duties.

The successful candidate will be a driven individual with excellent interpersonal skills as effective communication with both clients and colleagues will be extensive. He/she must also be a strong organizer and a team builder and be customer focused.

Must be self-motivated, work with minimal supervision and handle confidential information with utmost discretion. Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.

1. 2 or 3 year diploma or engineering degree in a technical discipline. (chemical, metallurgical, mechanical, electrical) a plus. Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements and standards. Good knowledge of steelmaking and finishing processes. Technical expertise in mechanical testing, chemical analysis and failure investigations are all highly desirable attributes. Corrosions, NDT (Level II or III) testing experience would also be a valuable asset. Previous experience in a laboratory environment will be ideal.

Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, desktop applications, and electronic mail programs are absolutely essential. Must demonstrate an ability to effectively manage multiple projects, and motivate and direct technical and staff personnel. Analytical, presentation, and problem-solving skills; the ability to gain internal support; to operate independently without supervision or feedback; and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with customers, technical staff, managers and peers. Reasoning and problem solving skills, along with good verbal and written communications skills are needed. Preference will be given to candidates based in Navi Mumbai.

He will perform the actual NDT testing with ultrasonic equipment (Krautkammer UMX 35) and MPI inspections with equipment from Magnaflux. He has to make the report in a professional standard in English. He also need to speak fluid English.
