June 09, 2006: Mumbai, India The Chemical department at TCR Engineering Services, a leading ISO 17025 accredited independent materials testing laboratory, has acquired the ARL Quantris Optical Emissions Spectrometer (OES) from Thermo Electron Corporation.
This spectrometer enhances the ability of Scientists and Chemists at TCR in identifying more elements in a sample including permitting ultimate accuracy in Copper, Cobalt, Magnesium and Titanium alloy analysis, plus cost effective and fast analysis of small steel and iron samples.
Mr. V.K. Bafna, Managing Director at TCR Engineering Services adds, "The new OES increases our ability in adding more elements to our identification capability resulting in superior analytical results. We can quantitatively determine up to 22 elements in small steel and iron samples in less than two minutes. Addition of the new OES is a further example of TCR investing substantially in extending its range of highly efficient outsourced metallurgical and analytical testing services."
An OES spectrometer consists of three main parts: an emission source which produces the spectrum, an optical system which scatters the spectrum and the device to measure the emitted lines which processes the result.
The ARL Quantris features Thermo's patented Current Controlled Source (CCS), which allows the definition of the best discharge parameters for every type of metal and alloy.
The ARL Quantris is the first CCD-based instrument that achieves analytical performance equivalent to traditional Photo-Multiplier Tube (PMT) spectrometers. This state-of-the-art spectrometer is configured with three spectrographs in order to cover wavelengths from 130 to 780 nm, enabling the analysis of all elements of interest, including Rear Earth Elements (REE) in magnesium alloys. In addition, the ARL Quantris is equipped with a special magnesium passivation system that eliminates the risk of explosion of the magnesium dust residues in the sample stand and argon filter.
The ARL Quantris assists TCR in providing customers with quantitative as well as qualitative analysis allowing highly accurate, stable and reliable determination of magnesium alloys in high-pressured environments such as the automotive, aerospace, power generation and Information, Communication Technologies (ICT) equipment industries.
