What TCR Eastern is

TCR Eastern was launched in March 2023 as a central hub for eastern India, serving cross-country pipeline radiography and ultrasonic work, advanced NDT, metallurgical consulting including failure analysis, Fitness-for-Service and remaining-life assessment, alongside destructive materials testing. The laboratory was formally opened on 18 April 2023 and is run by Samir Choudhury, General Manager.

It is the third accredited TCR laboratory in India, after Mahape in Navi Mumbai (NABL NABLT0726MH18640) and Vadodara (TCR Advanced, NABL TC-6739). A client in Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand or the north-east reaches the same scope, the same methods and the same report format without shipping samples across the country.

Accreditation

The Bhubaneswar laboratory holds NABL accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 under certificate TC-15993. The scope carries 409 items and the certificate is valid 30 April 2025 to 29 April 2029. Accreditation is site-specific: this certificate covers Bhubaneswar, and the Mahape scope (NABLT0726MH18640, 1483 items) covers Navi Mumbai.

Laboratory testing at Bhubaneswar

The mechanical testing laboratory at Bhubaneswar runs the destructive and analytical bench under the NABL scope. Every test follows an internationally recognised method and is reported against the standard it was run to.

• Physical and mechanical destructive testing, including tensile, hardness, impact and bend
• Chemical analysis of metals and alloys
• Corrosion studies
• Metallurgical evaluation and metallography
• Welder qualification testing, WPS and PQR, and certification of qualified welders
• Non-destructive testing

Sample scope and method availability are governed by the NABL scope document linked above. Where a client needs a method outside the Bhubaneswar scope, the sample is run at Mahape under the Navi Mumbai accreditation and the report names the laboratory that performed it.

Pipeline radiography and field NDT

Cross-country pipeline radiography and ultrasonic testing are run out of Bhubaneswar, which is what the office was opened to serve. The field bench covers girth-weld radiography on pipeline spreads, advanced NDT, and the metallurgical follow-up when an indication has to be explained rather than just recorded.

Offices and address

TCR Eastern operates from two addresses in Odisha. Paradip is a branch office and reports to Bhubaneswar; it is not a separate accredited laboratory.

Why Odisha

Odisha is one of India's fastest-growing industrial states, with steel and metals, mining, power and energy, ports and infrastructure, and heavy engineering and fabrication all expanding at once.

Having the laboratory and the NDT crews in the state rather than in Mumbai cuts turnaround, cuts logistics cost, and puts a metallurgist on site the same week rather than the same month.
