Who We Are

Careers and Culture

Nobody at TCR is addressed as Sir or Madam. First names run in every direction, from the President to the newest laboratory helper, because a junior technician has to be able to say that the calibration drifted.

Overview

A company that signs reports for a living lives or dies on the culture that produces those reports. The way TCR hires, develops, and treats its people is not separate from the quality of the work. It is the source of it. This is how the firm runs.

The TCR Way

TCR is a laboratory that does technical work, and that one fact shapes everything. A laboratory cannot run a culture where the most senior voice is automatically the right voice, because the technical truth has its own voice and every employee, whatever their grade, is expected to speak it without fear.

Across 53 years and five turns of the Indian engineering-services landscape, what has kept the firm standing is not a clever business model but a coherent set of values held by everyone on the team.

Precision over speed. Our clients have urgent deadlines and we will move heaven and earth to meet them, but we will not cut a step in a test method to do it. The test takes the time the test takes. We have lost work occasionally because we refused to compress an audit cycle, and we will keep refusing, because compressing it would mean signing a report we cannot defend.

Technical truth above all. When the data says the weld failed, the report says the weld failed. We do not soften the language because the client is unhappy, and we do not retest in the hope of a different number. A client who wants a result they did not get is welcome to take their sample elsewhere. They are not welcome to pressure ours.

Safety, every shift, every person. Materials testing involves moving machinery, hazardous chemicals, ionising radiation, and high temperatures. Every employee, including the President, wears the required PPE in PPE zones, follows lockout-tagout, observes radiation exclusion zones, and reports near-misses honestly. Safety is not a poster on the wall. It is what we do without thinking, every day.

A flat structure. The hierarchy is deliberately flat. The President sits in the same canteen as the laboratory helper, and decisions move quickly because they do not climb six rungs of approval. In a flat structure you are expected to think for yourself, raise concerns directly, and own outcomes. We do not micro-manage, because we trust you. The trust is the deal.

No Sir, No Madam, and the Open Door

At TCR nobody is addressed as Sir or Madam. We use first names, in every direction, from the President to the newest lab helper. The reason is technical, not ideological: in a NABL ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, the most junior technician has to be able to look at the most senior engineer and say, the calibration drifted.

In a Sir-and-Madam culture that sentence does not get said, and that is how reports go wrong. Alongside it runs an open door. Every member of management, up to the President, is reachable without appointment or protocol for the day-to-day, the technical disagreement, the suggestion, or the wellbeing concern, with the formal grievance channels reserved for matters that need a formal record.

Town Halls and Transparency

A company-wide town hall runs every month, alternating between location-level in person and video across all sites. A senior leader presents the financial position, technical wins, audit and accreditation outcomes, and client wins and losses, and the floor is then open for questions on any topic, with no filtering and no questions submitted in advance.

Town halls are mandatory and treated as work, because a leadership team that hides from its own employees is hiding from itself.

How We Hire

TCR Engineering staff with arms raised at a company gathering on the lawn at Mahape
A company that keeps its people: the median engineer on the senior bench has been here over a decade.

We hire for two things, technical competence and character, and one without the other is not enough. A skilled engineer who will sign a wrong report under pressure is no use to us, and a person of impeccable character who cannot read a UTM trace is no use either.

Roles are posted internally before they go out, because we grow TCR talent into the next role wherever we can. We interview honestly, telling candidates what the role actually involves including the hard parts, and we expect the same honesty back. Every interview involves at least two TCR people, never one, and the outcome is documented with reasons.

How We Grow People

A laboratory depends on the depth of its people, the senior radiographer, the metallurgist with twelve years of failure-investigation behind them, the chemist who has run the spectrometer for fifteen years.

Every employee from probation onwards holds an Individual Development Plan, agreed with their manager and refreshed each year, that sets out where they are, where they want to go, what they need to learn, and what support TCR will provide. Defined career ladders run for each principal track: NDT from trainee through ASNT or ISNT Level I, II, and III across the methods; the laboratory track from helper through chemist or metallurgist to specialist and lead investigator in failure investigation, fitness-for-service, and RLA; field engineering and asset integrity; and the QMS, audit, and compliance track from coordinator to Head of Quality. Movement up is earned on competence, contribution, and certification, not tenure. TCR sponsors role-relevant external certifications in line with each plan, and cross-trains and moves people between domains as they grow.

The TCR Family

TCR Engineering colleagues gathered at the Mahape laboratory, Navi Mumbai
Mahape, Navi Mumbai. Where most TCR careers start and where most of the training happens.

Once a year the offices open to the families of employees for the Diwali Open House, so that spouses, partners, children, and parents can see where their family member spends their days and meet the colleagues they hear about, with a child-friendly tour, a cultural programme, and activities for visiting children.

Through the year, an inter-departmental cricket tournament with deliberately mixed teams, informal walking groups run by department heads, and an annual outdoor team-building day keep a multi-location community connected, fit, and engaged. Participation is voluntary and there is no penalty for sitting out.

Community and the Profession

TCR has grown alongside the engineering, refining, manufacturing, and infrastructure communities of India, and contributing professional skill and time back to that community is treated as a natural extension of the work.

Employees volunteer on their own time in causes they choose, from teaching at engineering colleges and mentoring at women’s career programmes to blood-donation drives and beach cleanups, and many serve on the professional bodies that set the standards the firm works to, ASNT and ISNT, NABL assessor panels, BIS standards committees, and AERB technical advisory work. Significant contribution is recognised in the annual awards.

Rated by the people who know us best

TCR Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd. is rated 4.0 out of 5 on AmbitionBox and 3.7 out of 5 on Glassdoor by its own current and former employees, and is separately reviewed by clients on Google Business. All three platforms are independent of TCR, which is the only reason the numbers are worth quoting.

These ratings matter for one structural reason: TCR cannot edit them. They are written by people who have worked here, or bought from here, on platforms the firm does not control, which makes them a harder test than any careers page. A candidate deciding whether to join, and a client deciding whether to send a sample, are entitled to read the unedited version before they decide. That is what Transparency means in the TCR tagline, and it is why the badges are published here with the links rather than described.
