In brief
TCR Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd., a NABL ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited laboratory in Navi Mumbai, supports indigenisation of imported capital-equipment components: metallurgical study of the imported reference, reverse engineering, prototype development, vendor identification, materials selection and acceptance test campaigns.
Indigenisation and Localisation Support
Reverse engineering, prototype development, vendor identification, and acceptance test campaign management for capital equipment that the buyer wants to source domestically against an imported reference.
Technical Help for Indigenisation
To set the baseline standard for indigenisation, TCR studies the imported component metallurgically, by destructive and non-destructive methods, to establish its condition and properties. Technical help is provided to decide on the right manufacturing route or process and to develop quality checks on indigenously created components.
TCR asks the client for component details in these areas to scope indigenisation support:
- Working condition of component
- Type of loading and stresses
- Design and operation condition
- Service history of component
- Life of an important component
Selection of Materials
Weight loss experiments: Samples of different metals/alloys are exposed to simulated or actual process plant solution in the laboratory, with and without stirring. Coupons of different metals/alloys are exposed to actual plant environment and a systematic approach is formulated, based on the requirement of intended services, literature survey and relevant standards such as NACE, ASTM and API. The laboratory study is performed on the exposed sample to categorise the performance and a suitable MOC is recommended. Electrochemical experiments establish relative corrosion resistance by accelerated testing under laboratory conditions. MOC selection uses an off-the-shelf database and is combined with the experience of other experts drawn from published literature.
Quality Improvement
TCR undertakes total quality improvements for stringent requirements against international specifications. A thorough survey is undertaken by auditing the existing manufacturing procedure followed by stage-wise investigations of raw material and other components required for product manufacturing. Effects of processing conditions are derived with respect to different properties of the component. Based on the study, recommendations are made for improvements in metallurgical process/raw material. The required quality control checks are suggested to ensure consistency for optimum and continuous production.
TCR's metallurgists carry out the study. The report sets out how each metallurgical processing variable affects the final properties of the components and includes recommendations for corrective measures.

Frequently asked questions
How does TCR set the baseline for an indigenised component?
TCR studies the imported component metallurgically, by destructive and non-destructive methods, to establish its condition and properties, then helps decide the manufacturing route and develops quality checks for the indigenous part.
What does TCR need from the client to scope indigenisation support?
The working condition of the component, the type of loading and stresses, the design and operating conditions, its service history and the life of the component.
How are materials selected for the indigenised part?
By weight loss experiments in simulated or actual plant solution, coupon exposure in the actual plant environment and electrochemical tests, against NACE, ASTM and API standards, with a recommended material of construction.
