Avinash Tambewagh, Technical Head at TCR Engineering

Overview

Mr. Avinash is a highly accomplished metallurgical expert with over 34 years of robust, hands-on experience spanning advanced material testing, corrosion engineering, root cause failure analysis, and foundry operations. Over his distinguished career, he has specialised in technical support, laboratory administration, and consultancy, helping both national and international companies establish state-of-the-art corrosion testing laboratories for sour service applications.

Well-versed in a massive array of national and international codes—including ASTM, BS, EN, BIS, IS, ISO, and NACE—he seamlessly bridges the gap between complex metallurgical science and rigorous industrial quality assurance.

Background and experience

Currently managing an entire advanced testing department, Mr. Avinash commands deep expertise in High-Cycle Fatigue (HCF), Low-Cycle Fatigue (LCF), and Fatigue Crack Growth Rate (FCGR) evaluations. He is exceptionally well-versed in fracture mechanics, regularly executing critical testing programs for plane-strain fracture toughness (KIC), elastic-plastic fracture toughness (JIC), and Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) at both ambient and sub-zero temperatures.

His operations strictly comply with standards such as ASTM E466, E606, E399, E1820, E647, BS 7448, ISO 12135, and ISO 15653. Because of this specialised capability, he has been entrusted with successfully executing high-stakes, tailor-made testing programs in fracture appearance, fatigue, and fracture toughness for strategic Navy and Defense projects.

In the domain of corrosion and chemical testing, Mr. Avinash possesses thorough, authoritative knowledge of international specifications governing material integrity in harsh environments. His expertise encompasses NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, NACE MR0103/ISO 17945, NACE TM0177, NACE TM0284, NACE TM0103 and NACE TM0316, alongside the extensive ASTM G-series (including B117, G28, G31, G36, G39, G47, G48, G66, G67, G78), ISO 3651-2, and GOST-6032. A major highlight of his corrosion portfolio includes handling the complex Four-Point Bend Sulphide Stress Cracking (SSC) Testing by the strain gauge method for Thai-Nippon Steel during their Myanmar Oil & Gas Project.

Beyond standard mechanics, Mr. Avinash applies advanced testing methodologies to address specialised engineering challenges across the infrastructure, rail, and energy sectors. He successfully managed the Accelerated Creep Rupture Testing (ACRT) per ASTM E139 and API standards for Saudi Aramco’s Yanbu Refinery, utilising the Larson-Miller parameter and the Omega Method for a critical Remaining Life Assessment (RLA) study. Additionally, he has handled FCGR Testing per EN 13674 and ISO 12108 for Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) for railway track-rail applications, and routinely oversees slip testing for reinforcement bar couplers and mechanical splices under ASTM A1034, IS 16172, and ISO 15630.

Mr. Avinash's foundational expertise extends directly to the foundry floor, where he holds in-depth knowledge of melting, moulding, methoding, and gating systems for specialised corrosion and heat-resistant alloy steel castings. Notably, he was recognized and rewarded at M/s. Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) for his valuable contributions to reducing casting rejection rates for chemical-handling centrifugal pump impellers. This deep understanding of manufacturing defects fuels his work in Failure Analysis and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), where he diagnoses component failures for products sourced from aggressive environments like chemical plants, petroleum refineries, and active oil wells.

A certified ISO Internal Auditor holding ASNT Level II certifications in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Penetrant Testing (PT), Mr. Avinash has a strong record in organising, handling, and clearing strict Second and Third-Party Inspections (TPI). He has successfully steered plant integrity audits on behalf of MECON and routinely coordinates with regulatory and inspection bodies, including: LRIS, BVIS, IRS, NTPC, TOYO, ONGC, BHEL-CQS, TPL, QUEST, IL, ABS, Multitex, GESCO, DNV, TUV, NPCIL, BARC, EIL, UDHE, FEDO, IBR, L&T, IQC, and HPCL.
