Overview

Mr. Manoj Prabhakar Singh serves as the Department Head of Conventional and Corrosion Testing, bringing a wealth of multi-disciplinary expertise that spans foundry operations, fabrication, and advanced material testing laboratories. A science graduate from Venkateshwara Open University, Itanagar, Mr. Singh has built an extensive career grounded in both national and international testing specifications.

He seamlessly pairs his profound knowledge of material behaviour with practical industrial design experience, allowing him to approach metallurgical challenges with a holistic, highly analytical perspective.

Background and experience

One of Mr. Singh’s standout professional characteristics is his exceptional ability to analyse complex technical documents, interpret intricate general arrangement drawings, and synthesize this information to reach definitive, valid engineering conclusions. This diagnostic capability is backed by a deep understanding of the heat treatment of industrial ferrous materials, alongside practical experience in design for steel and alloy development.

His material expertise is remarkably broad, encompassing cast iron, general engineering steels, stainless steels, aluminium, copper alloys, nickel-base alloys, and titanium.

Throughout his career, Mr. Singh has mastered the mechanical investigation of critical components across the offshore, marine, refinery, and automotive sectors. His diagnostic portfolio includes evaluating high-stress assets such as turbine blades, compressors, gearboxes, motors, pumps, rotors, shafts, valves, and pipe work. He is equally adept at analyzing smaller, high-precision components like fasteners, boilers, pressure vessels, plain and rolling bearings, gears, pistons, spark plugs, crankshafts, camshafts, and engine valves. This vast component knowledge ensures that testing is always conducted with a clear understanding of the asset's real-world operational environment.

In the lab, Mr. Singh maintains hands-on practice in conventional mechanical testing for specialised components, including industrial springs, automotive seat belts, reinforcement couplers, and aluminium profiles. Complementing his mechanical background is an authoritative command over specialised corrosion testing methodologies. He routinely oversees critical evaluations including inter-granular corrosion testing per ASTM A262, pitting and crevice corrosion testing, Hydrogen-Induced Cracking (HIC), Sulphide Stress Corrosion Cracking (SSCC), and Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (CSCC) under strict NACE TM0177, TM0284, MR0175, and MR0103 standards, as well as salt spray testing per ASTM B117.

As a departmental leader, Mr. Singh balances rigorous technical supervision with an approachable, highly collaborative management style. He is widely recognized for his articulate diplomacy and strong interpersonal skills, which allow him to effectively motivate subordinates and optimize workflow efficiency. Beyond managing internal lab operations and supervising the machining department to ensure strict compliance with standard preparation codes, he acts as the primary technical interface for all Third-Party Inspections (TPI). He efficiently resolves complex technical queries from international auditors, interprets advanced testing results, and provides vital strategic support to senior leadership.
